Description

Key Characters:

Growth Form: Trees 6–8 m tall.

Stems: Few–branched.

Roots: Fibrous root system.

Leaves: Leaves simple. Alternate-spiralling. Blades leaves linear, gradually tapering in upper ⅓, 17–40 cm long, 1.2–2.3 cm wide. Base sessile. Blades subcoriaceous. Margins entire. Veins parallel. Sessile. Stipules absent.

Flowers: Flowers in panicles slender, slightly glaucous, 24–44 cm long, the lower lateral branches ca. 5–10 cm long, peduncles 8–13 cm long, abruptly recurved. Flowers bisexual (perfect); pedicels 4–7 mm long. Perianth greenish yellow or yellowish green, 23–30 mm long, tube 14–18 mm long, constricted basal part ca. 2–2.5 mm long, lobes spreading to somewhat reflexed, 8–12 mm long; anthers 3.5–4 mm long. Stamens 6, inserted at base of perianth tube. Ovary superior, 3-celled; ovules 1 per cell; style filiform; stigma capitate or slightly lobed.

Fruit: Berries bright red; 8–12 mm long. Seeds 1–3; 4–8 mm long.

Ploidy:

Habitat: Occurring in remnant dry forest.

Elevation Range: 490–670 m.
